This is one of those little known facts that many will find unbelievable. There are six states in America that do not have casinos. Yes, six. Not a single known casino.

This article seeks to explore why the states of Utah, Hawaii, Florida, New Hampshire, Alaska and Washington D.C. do not have casinos.

#The State of Utah

The State of Utah is known for its incredible scenery which makes it a tourist favorite especially those who enjoy hiking, skiing, boating, snowboarding and rock climbing.Salt Lake City which is the capital of Utah is famous for its unique modern and historical sites such as the Temple Square, which is the headquarters for the Mormons otherwise referred to as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is probably why there are no casinos in this state. The strong Mormon heritage has prevented any form of gambling from taking root.

#The State of Hawaii

The State of Hawaii is one of the most popular romantic tourist destinations in America. The state is made up of incredible islands each with its own natural charm and a populace that has maintained its cultural heritage. In addition to this, Hawaii is also home to one of the most strategic and historic US Military bases. This combination of factors has made it unconducive for gambling to take root.

#The District of Columbia

Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States of America and the state that houses all the three branches of the US Government. I guess it is rather obvious why there aren’t any casinos here.

#The State of Florida

The State of Florida popularly referred to as the “Sunshine State” is probably the most surprising in this list. Technically speaking, there are some casinos in Florida however, they are all tribal casinos. There are however no commercial casinos in this state. The main reason for this is the fact that about 90 per cent of convention space in this state is owned by Disney. The company has been accused of stifling any attempts to introduce casinos in the state in an effort to protect its business interests.

#The State of New Hampshire

The State of New Hampshire happens to be one of the states in America yet to legalize casino gambling. Efforts to do so have so far been unsuccessful. This could soon change however as the state leadership begins to recognize that it is losing gambling revenue as residents opt to visit casinos in neighboring states where gambling is perfectly legal.

#The State of Alaska

The State of Alaska is the largest in the United States of America in terms of area yet it happens to be the least densely populated. This has something to do with the fact that it lies in the Arctic Circle. So for obvious reasons there are no commercial casinos in this state.
